I came back home one night, my wife hugged me and told me she is one month overdue, that it's like she is pregnant. The doctor conducted a test on her that day, she said, and warned me, until it is sure, we should not tell anybody. She received a phone call from PHCN office the next day because we had not paid our light bill. Am I speaking to Mr Ofego? The man on the phone asked. This is his wife. My wife said. You are a month overdue, hope you all know? The man inquired. How did you people know? My wife stammered. Madam it is in our file. The man said. How did it enter your file? My wife asked. We have a system of finding out who is overdue. The man informed her. Oh my GOD!!!!!!, she cried, we are finished! What is this? Madam, I am sorry, The PHCN man said, I am following orders, I just called to inform you that you are overdue. No problem, my wife said, I will tell my husband when he comes back. That night, while we were relaxing she told me. Ofego, they know that I am overdue at PHCN! I got provoked and rushed down to PHCN office the next day. As I entered the office I shouted; What is happening? I heard you people have a file that says my wife is overdue, does it concern you? I asked angrily. Calm down sir, said the PHCN branch secretary. It is nothing serious. All you have to do is pay us. Pay you people for what? I screamed. What if i don't pay? In that case sir, we have no option but to cut yours off. He said. I asked; If you cut it what will my wife do? I don't know, he replied, I guess she will have to use a candle! On hearing this I collasped.
