Warri Ofego Episode Twenty

Ofego stood and stared at a woman frying akara at the other side of the road. He thought; This woman will have money o. What I don't know is where she keeps them. I must find out. I want to help her spend her money. Let me go. In the night I'll come back to withdraw her money and help her spend them. I must get those provisions for that stupid boy Onos. I don't want to be charged to court for child labour. Madam tonight is the night. I am coming to buy from you, not your akara but your money. Ofego said walking away. Later that night, the woman was busy frying more akara, people stood in front of the table where she was. They were buying and Ofego was hiding at the shade at the woman's back. The place was dark. Nobody knew how Ofego got there. Nobody knew he was there. The lamp there was on, but it was not bright enough to light up the area. As the woman was attending to customers, Ofego was watching from where he was hiding. Let me not go and take her money now. Let me wait till the crowd is less. Ofego said to himself and waited. The crowd got less, only three customers remaining. They stood in front of her as she attended to them. Ofego said to himself; It's time for me to strike. He stretched and dipped his right hand into the first container. It wasn't the container he was looking for. He directed the hand to the second one. It wasn't the container he was looking for. He whispered; This is not the container. Just a matter of seconds before my hand gets to it. As he stretched out the hand again, he dipped it into something. It was not a container. He felt a sharp pain on his hand, a sizzling sensation and screamed; Blood of Jesus! It is inside the hot groundnut oil this woman is using to fry her akara I have shook my hand into, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! He jumped up in pain. The woman and the customers looked back. NEPA immediately brought light and Ofego was clearly seen. They stretched to get him but he took off. Next, Episode Twenty-One
