A Father Without Liver

My father was riding his old rickety bicycle when a keke napep (tricycle) driver ran into him. He did not sustain any injury yet he insisted he must be taken to the hospital, so the driver took him to the hospital and he was admitted into ward 5. The driver paid all the bills and provided him with food; Salad, goat meat, rice, chicken, lots of fruits etc. I heard about these and decided to go and stay with him in the hospital for sometime. We enjoyed ourselves all through that day. The next morning, there was a cry. Someone had died in Ward 1. Tears and sorrows were everywhere.

Ofego what is the problem? My father asked. I told him that someone had died in Ward 1. He said okay.

The second day, a little girl in Ward 2 died. The doctors were confused, my father did not say anything, he just stared at me.

The third day an old woman that greeted my father that morning died in Ward 3 before noon. Ofego, I hope you are seeing what I am seeing? My father asked. Yes, daddy, I replied. My father did not sleep that night. Before morning another cry came up. An old man that was about to be discharged died in Ward 4. The whole hospital became confused. My father quietly packed his loads and woke me up. Ofego pack your load, we are leaving, the way I am seeing this things, another person is going to die in Ward 5 and, I am not going to let that happen. I said; But daddy, wait till morning na. Before I could finish the statement my father had disappeared from the hospital.
